Chest by the Bay Book Review

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.
Chest by the Bay is a haunting story of an abandoned amusement park and the curiosity of a child. The opening of a long-forgotten chest reawakens the spirits of a circus from the past.

Chest by the Bay is the first book from Tessa Beauchat. Tessa is currently 12. She is in the 7th Grade at Saint Francis Xavier School in historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Chest by the Bay grew out of poetry project Tessa did in the 4th grade. Tessa has a passion for both writing and reading. Her favorite authors are Veronica Roth and Rick Riordan.

Tessa participates in the Center for Talented Youth at Johns Hopkins University. She also has a passion for volleyball. This season Tessa is playing for the Revolution Volleyball Club of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. She is a defensive specialist and plays the position of libero.

My Review:
4 stars
Note : I reviewed a paperback copy of this book.

This was a very well written and interesting book. I would qualify this book as poetry, which was very well done and mature for a 12 year old. The rhyming was nearly perfect and the word choices and structure were great. There was even a glossary with the definition of some of the words that kids might not understand. The illustrations were also well done and enhanced the story nicely.

While this is a children's picture book, I would be cautious about reading this to younger children, as the wording and story are more for older kids, and younger children may not understand the story.

The only downside is that the paperback is expensive, though there is a reasonably priced Kindle version as well.

All in all, this was a fun book, and I would definitely recommend it. I can't wait to see what this young woman will go with her writing in the future, as she shows quite a lot of promise at such a young age.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
